OBSERVED: Saw about 20 police cars, plus undercover vehicles, converge on W. Gilbert, close to University, just moments ago. Neighbors said cops had guns drawn and were chasing someone between houses. Some cop cars nearly smashed into each other as they changed directions in the middle of the street. Skid marks on the pavement.

OBSERVED: At Hometown Buffet, all the booth seats have been slashed and stuffing is coming out of them. Plus, the food is no longer labeled, so you have to guess what various items are. Is that some sort of spinach chicken or is it tofu tuna quiche?

Observed & Tasted: Crusens on War Memorial has the best hot chicken wings I’ve ever had, and I’m a total obsessive about hot wings, I try them at almost every restaurant I visit.

My mom is 80 years old, very feeble. Her refrigerator started smoking. My brother who lives with her handled it well. Sears, the scumbags, wanted to install a new $300 part on this 11 year old fridge. Shermans wanted to charge $60 delivery fee. Lowes delivered a new refrigerator, no delivery charge, and no charge to haul away not only the old refrigerator, but an old clothes dryer in the basement. Sears SUCKS. Shermans SUCKS. Lowes rocks!!!

OBSERVED: At Kroger’s in Evergreen Square, this past Sunday, a guy steals a lady’s purse as she (apparently in her 60s) was loading groceries into her car trunk. She takes off after him, in flip flops no less, he drops her purse, she grabs it, and keeps screaming and chasing the inept bandit. It was too funny!!!

Hillarious. But I’m glad the bad buy failed.

Imagine if his friends were watching it. What’s he tell people when they ask why he hasn’t gone to the liquor store for more Alize and Steelhouse. “I thought you were going to get more booze,” they gripe. “I was but I couldn’t get the money I was expecting to get”, he mumbles. “Why?” they demand. “She scared the shit out of me,” he explains.

This isn’t really a “Peoria” post, but the classic Television “Adventure” LP has been reimagined by some cool LA bands. Free mp3 zip link. http://www.aquariumdrunkard.com/2010/10/05/laventure-televisions-adventure-reimagined/comment-page-1/#comment-1231056

HyVee in Peoria, IL cuts all employee hours to 29, to avoid providing them health care benefits. A result of Obamacare, which states you must provide hc to employees who work 30 hours or more.

I love it! I am going to HyVee today!

They need a union to stop this sort of thing.

What is your source for this? I can’t find anything that would confirm that HyVee has done this. In fact, I can find no report that any employer has cut to 29 hours to avoid health care benefits.

My source is an employee of HyVee in Peoria, IL Of course you can’t find it on Google because HyVee is not blabbing it to the media. This is IckyLeaks.

Just go to the Peoria HyVee and ask any employee how many hours he or she is working. But they might get fired for leaking this to you.

Walmart employees also claim they work an average of 29 hours per week, although Walmart will not make public this data.

I copied this to Peoria Pundit. I’d like anyone who works there and who can verify this to me. I’ll keep name confidential.

What you’ll get is a manager who will pretend to be a clerk and will say this is hogwash.

Local ice cream shop ignored my need of food service. I stood there at the “service” window. The employee was 4 feet from me, head down, concentrating on a cell phone call. I saw a doorbell on the right with a “Press For Service” sign written with a ball point pen. I pressed it. Twice. Guy didn’t even flinch. A statue. I walked away, saving money, and eliminating yet another fine Peoria business from my list of where at to spend my hard earned ephemeral cash and coin.

      How about a name?

    • vaspers 1:05 pm on September 24, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Nope. No name this time. My point is how customer service is still rotten in most stores and companies, no matter how much they whine about wanting to increase sales and the economy being tough. When will they ever wake up?

    • vaspers 1:06 pm on September 24, 2010 Permalink | Reply

How about a name from you Mazr? You are linkless and anonymous, and so shall be the ice cream shop.

Circle K gas station now carries no Altoids, no mints of any kind, only mint gums and other flavors of gum. Gum and candy bars. That’s about all you’ll find at the check out counter. When I ask where the Altoids are, they always say, “I didn’t know we were out of them.” I ask, “Are you still carrying them?” They answer, “I don’t know.” Great customer service.

The clerks — the ones who interface with customers more than any other employee — are the lowest on the totem pole. They are the most overworked and underpaid. This is why customer service sucks — and it isn’t unique to gas stations.

    • vaspers 4:10 pm on September 11, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Dude I worked at gas stations twice in my life. At the Circle K, but when it was under some other name on McClure and University, the clerks worked 8 hours or more, with NO lunch break or smoke break or anything to sit, no employee lounge. I was told to “grab a bag of potato chips and a soda” and call that my “lunch break” as I continued to serve customers at the cash register. I speak as a former insider, in addition to being an external critic.

Driving to the East Peoria Super Walmart, a lady on a street intersecting the one I’m on decides to plow into my driver’s side door, as she stupidly uses a turn lane as a merge lane. I leaned on my horn and gave her the business, calling her several appropriate names. She wasn’t even texting or talking on her cell phone. Just off in lala land.
